Memorial Button Production Volunteer

Louis D Brown Peace Institute, Dorchester, MA

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute (LDBPI) is a center of healing, teaching and learning for families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief and loss. Our commitment is to transform society’s response to homicide so all families are treated with dignity and compassion. Our programs and services are grounded in the Centers for Disease Control’s social-ecological framework that interventions are needed at multiple levels in order to interrupt cycles of violence.

The LDBPI is recognized across the state and country for the best practices in the field of homicide response. With over 25 years of experience, the LDBPI continues to innovate and grow.

POSITION OVERVIEW AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

One of the services that the LDBPI provides to families of homicide victims is memorial button design, production and donation. The LDBPI also creates buttons for families whose loved ones die by natural causes or accidents, for a small fee to families who request them.

This role is to provide support to the Survivor Outreach Services team creating buttons for either deaths by homicide, suicide, overdose or COVID-19, or of natural causes or accidents. This will involve printing out paper button inserts, cutting them, and pressing them manually, using a button press machine. Training will be provided by a LDBPI staff member.

Based at: The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute 15 Christopher Street, Dorchester, MA 02122

Reports To: Survivor Outreach and Support Manager

Start Date: Immediately

HOURS: Up to 4 hours per week on Thursdays

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Desire to serve the survivor community with dignity and compassion
  • Ability to accurately cut circular paper button inserts
  • Ability to use manual button press machine which requires use of hand, arm and shoulder 
  • Ability to participate in button production training
