Survivor Outreach Services

If you or someone you know has been impacted by homicide, please contact us at 617-825-1917 x119 or SOS@LDBpeaceinstitute.org.
Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) provides voluntary and complimentary services for families of murdered loved ones, offering immediate emotional and practical support to families within the first 24–to–72 hours following a homicide. SOS guides families using the LDBPI’s original publication, The Survivors’ Burial and Resource Guide: Step-by-Step Workbook for Regaining Control.
SOS’s services include outreach, Victim Compensation support and funeral guidance, as well as stabilization services, advocacy and referrals as needed. We also offer ongoing healing support for survivors impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss. Our spaces are safe, non-judgemental, and available to all, regardless of the circumstances.
Since 1996, in partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission, SOS has provided trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. Created as part of Boston’s homicide response protocol, the Homicide Response Toolkit helps providers support families in the aftermath of murder and loss. The toolkit includes: The Survivors’ Burial and Resource Guide, The Survivors’ Court Preparation and Resource Guide, Always in My Heart: A Workbook for Grieving Children, and The Survivors Rights Card.
