Our Impact in 2014

With your help, the Peace Institute has taken some exciting steps in 2014:

•           We have expanded our after-school enrichment programs for children who have
             experienced the murder of a loved one;

•           We have contracted with three Boston schools to provide training to their teachers;

•           We have published our primary tool for working with families of homicide victims,
             Survivors Burial and Resource Guide, and are making it available in hospital emergency
             rooms as an immediate resource for families;

•           We have partnered with UMass Medical Center and UMass Boston to pilot a mindfulness
             program for providers and to our Survivors’ Leadership Academy;

•           We hosted our 18th annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace with over 10,000 walkers;

•           We collaborated with Visions, Inc. and Children’s Hospital to host a conference for over
            275 professionals on “Being Culturally Responsive in Urban Settings”, through a grant
            from the Josephine and Louise Crane Family Foundation;

•           We gave training to over 2,000 professionals and providers on survivor-based tools and
            techniques, including 55 correction officers;

•           Our fourth cohort of inmates at Plymouth County Correctional Facility completed
            Peace from Within, a mindfulness and peacebuilding class;

•           We established a Rest in Peace Fund to help families bear the burden of burial costs;

•           We accepted three interns into our Peace Fellows program for Masters candidates;
